Press Release

Date: March 9, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) today made the following statement regarding President Obama's executive order lifting existing restrictions on stem cell research.

"Today, help has come with a stroke of a pen for millions of Americans and their families who are fighting debilitating disease every day.

By lifting a major hurdle for medical research, we will see new opportunities for treatment and for cures. President Obama's act ensures that stem cell research will be done under strict ethical guidelines.

"I was proud to help lead the fight to advance this life-saving research in Congress just as many Michigan voters turned out last November to successfully pass a ballot initiative to overturn a similar state restriction. I look forward to continue working with this administration to advance responsible research and bring quality, affordable health care to all Americans." - U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow
