Pryor Announces Appropriation Subcommittee Assignments

Senator Mark Pryor today announced that he is looking forward to serving on the following five subcommittees as part of his new assignment on the Senate Appropriations Committee:

* Military Construction and Veterans Affairs
* Agriculture, Rural Development, Federal Drug Administration
* Commerce, Justice, Science
* Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education
* Legislative Branch

"It's a great honor and responsibility to serve on the Appropriations Committee because this body prioritizes how taxpayer dollars are spent to make government work better. I will work with my colleagues to invest these hard-earned dollars in a smart, fair and efficient manner," Pryor said. "I tried my best to tie my subcommittee assignments with the areas I know best from representing the state of Arkansas. Obviously, I'm thrilled with a portfolio that allows me more of a hand in allocating funds for critical areas such as military construction, agriculture and rural development, health care, education and law enforcement."

The Appropriations Committee is tasked with drafting legislation to allocate all of the Federal government's discretionary spending. Various subcommittees are responsible for reviewing the President's budget request, hearing testimony from government officials, and drafting the spending plans for the coming fiscal year. Their work is passed on to the full Senate Appropriations Committee, which may review and modify the bills and forward them to the full Senate for consideration.
