Larsen Condemns Arlington Cross Burning

Date: March 26, 2004
Location: Washington, DC

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) released the following statement today on the Arlington cross burning:

"I want to join my voice with others who strongly condemn the cross burning in Arlington. Being an Arlington native, I am especially repulsed that such an act of hatred was perpetrated in my hometown.

"I offer my full support to our local and federal law enforcement authorities' efforts. I call for strong and swift action against those responsible for this heinous crime.

"The Martin family has my deepest sympathy. I thank Pastor Jason Martin for challenging all of us to confront these actions with honesty and use them for change.

"Like Pastor Martin, I hope we will look back on this week and not remember it for the evil actions of individuals. Rather, I hope we can look back at Arlington's collective steps forward in celebrating its growing diversity.

"To do so, we must all support community efforts to educate and heal in our schools, our homes, and our hometown."
