LOEBSACK EXPRESSES OUTRAGE AT ALLEGATIONS OF WORKER MISTREATMENT IN WEST LIBERTY TURKEY PLANT

Currently there are state and federal investigations against Henry's Turkey Service in Atalissa for illegally discriminating against a group of 21 mentally retarded workers living in Atalissa and working for West Liberty turkey plant. The workers were housed in a century-old school building and working for as little as 44 cents an hour.

"I am shocked and outraged that something like this could happen," said Congressman Loebsack. "My office has been in touch with Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals, and we are working to get to the bottom of this. The workers must be properly compensated for their work, and those who are responsible for these morally reprehensible acts should be punished."
