Governor Bobby Jindal Issues Statement on Dept. of Labor's TAA Certification for International Paper
Today, Governor Bobby Jindal issued a statement regarding the Department Of Labor's decision to grant Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) for former employees of the International Paper mill in Bastrop:
"This is positive news for the Bastrop community and those employees throughout Northeast Louisiana. This TAA certification will provide IP workers access to supplementary skills training programs, job placement initiatives and benefit packages, in addition to our state support through the Workforce Commission. Every eligible IP worker should utilize the benefits available to them through this TAA grant so they can connect with available jobs as quickly as possible. As I've said before, we're going to find a way to create opportunity out of this situation. LED Secretary Stephen Moret continues to work with local leaders to identify new economic development opportunities for the area, and we will not rest until we get the Bastrop community back on their feet."
