CASTLE: ENCOURAGED BY SCHIP EXPANSION

Today, Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE), an avid supporter of expanding access to healthcare for children, praised President Obama's action to sign the State Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization (SCHIP, H.R. 2) into law. This bill reauthorizes and expands the amount of low-income children able to receive federal assistance under the SCHIP. Similar bills were vetoed twice by President Bush in the 110th Congress.

"I am thrilled that President Obama immediately signed the SCHIP expansion into law, enabling an additional 4 million American children to have health insurance." said Rep. Castle. "I am particularly supportive of the $100 million included to assist states like Delaware, where enrollment has not reached its potential. I look forward to working with Governor Markell to make sure we reach as many children in need as possible in our state. This expansion of children's health insurance during this time of such economic stress is critical, but we must not lose sight of the greater goal of coverage for all Americans."
