Corker Opposes $1,000,000,000,000 Spending Bill

U.S. Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) made the following statement after voting against the $1 trillion spending bill.

"I am disappointed that Congress has chosen to borrow and spend nearly $1 trillion without solving the issues that created this economic crisis — credit and housing.

"To turn our economy around, our priority should be to address the problems in our credit markets and get banks lending again. Additionally, we need to take steps to improve the challenges in the housing market.

"Unfortunately, the conference report passed by the House and Senate borrows hundreds of billions of dollars and spends it on government programs, many of which will clearly not help us address the two challenges I mentioned above.

"Like all Americans, I'm anxious for us to solve this fundamental problem and for job growth to return, but when that occurs, it is my strong belief it will not be a result of the stimulus package passed today. In fact, I believe many Americans will look up in 24 or 36 months and realize they are left paying the tab for something that will have very little tangible benefit to our country."
