Moran Votes for Healthy Kansas Kids

Congressman Jerry Moran released the following statement on his support for a bipartisan bill to provide health care coverage for low-income children through the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). This state program operates in Kansas as HealthWave, a private insurance provider. The legislation passed the House by a vote of 290-135 and has been signed into law by the President.

"If health care is not accessible to the most vulnerable members of our society, our children, any chance of them having long and healthy lives will be at risk," Moran said. "SCHIP and Kansas HealthWave protect children from low-income families who do not have private insurance and do not qualify for Medicaid. Since my first vote in support for SCHIP legislation in 2007, Kansas has seen more than 2,000 additional children enroll in SCHIP. Given the current economic situation, it is even more imperative that these children do not slip through the cracks and that they receive the care and medicine they need to stay healthy."
