Ellsworth Applauds Congressional Pay Raise Suspension

Rep. Brad Ellsworth today applauded a move to block the nearly $4,700 pay raise Congress is set to receive next year. House leadership announced it would be suspending the upcoming pay raise this afternoon; the move is projected to save taxpayers an estimated $2.5 million.

"At a time when Hoosiers are struggling to make ends meet and worried about pink slips and foreclosure notices, I think the money can be put to better use," said Ellsworth. "Budgets are tight, and every penny counts. I applaud this common sense move to reduce government spending and hope to see more efforts to restore fiscal accountability in Washington."
Ellsworth was a strong and early advocate for blocking the automatic Congressional pay raise; co-sponsoring bipartisan legislation in the 110th and 111th Congresses and donating his raise to 8th District charities.
