Polis Calls for Fair Treatment of Women in Economic Stimulus Bill
In a letter sent to President Elect Barack Obama, U.S. Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO) is urging his fellow members of Congress and the Obama Administration to ensure that every American, regardless of gender, is included and stands to benefit from proposed infrastructure investment included in the $825 Billion Stimulus Bill announced today.
"Over ninety percent of jobs created through infrastructure investment go to men. Incorporating some of the changes we outline would ensure that women have the chance to train for and compete for the new jobs that the recovery bill creates," said Polis.
"We are all in this recession together, and offering a future filled with greater economic security for women and their families is critical to getting our economy going again. Improving job access for women would meet both the immediate needs of the recovery package and the goal of improving the skill and preparation of our workforce," said Polis.
