U.S. Representative Rick Boucher announced today that, at his urging, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, through its Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, is providing a federal grant in the amount of $22,709 to the Radford Fire Department. "This provision of federal funding will enable the Radford Fire Department to equip its new ladder truck. The new equipment will provide an added measure of safety for Department members and the community they serve," Boucher said.
The Radford Fire Department has recently purchased a ladder truck to respond to fires more efficiently throughout the City. With the benefit of the federal funds announced today, the Radford Fire Department will purchase 1800 feet of new water hose and a positive pressure fan for the new truck, which will aid department members fight fires effectively.
The Radford Fire Department provides fire protection to the City of Radford. The Department has 34 members, 23 of whom serve on a voluntary basis.
"I am pleased that the Department of Homeland Security has provided this funding to the Radford Fire Department. It is important to ensure that our fire and rescue personnel have access to the best equipment and today's announcement will help further this goal," Boucher concluded.
