Manzullo: Democrat Leaders Skip Town Without Voting on Meaningful Energy Solutions

Congressman Don Manzullo (R-Egan) today criticized House and Senate Democrat leaders for sending Congress home on a 5-week recess without doing anything to increase the supply of American-made energy and reduce gas prices in our nation.

Last week, Manzullo joined many of his colleagues in introducing the American Energy Act (HR 6566), an "all-of-the-above" energy strategy that would increase the supply of American-made energy, improve conservation and efficiency, and promote new and expanding energy technologies to help lower the price at the pump. Many of the provisions of the all-encompassing bill were included in Manzullo's 12-point plan to reduce gas prices in America, which he unveiled in May.

Despite numerous polls that show strong majorities of Americans want more domestic production of oil and gas to increase supplies and lower gas prices, Democrat leaders - who decide what bills are scheduled for votes -- have consistently refused to allow any votes on legislation to allow more drilling on American lands or off our shores. And on Friday, they adjourned the House for five weeks without taking any action to increase energy supplies and reduce gas prices.

"Democrat leaders have continually ignored the wishes of the American people and blocked efforts to allow production of more American-made energy to reduce record gas prices in our nation," Manzullo said. "It's outrageous that Democrat leaders have sent Congress home on a 5-week recess without doing anything to solve our energy crisis, leaving struggling Americans to suffer through the rest of the summer with high gas prices."
