REP. MILLER APPLAUDS LEXINGTON DREDGING WORK

Boaters who use Lexington Harbor will notice there is a little more water under their vessels with the recent completion of a dredging project which used funds obtained by Congresswoman Candice Miller, MI-10.

Rep. Miller was able to obtain $162,360 in federal funds to perform the dredging on Lexington Harbor. The Lexington project was slated to begin in May, but with the large number of dredging projects across the state, it was delayed until this past week.

"I appreciate everyone's patience this summer as we waited for the dredging work to be completed," Rep. Miller said. "As a boater myself, I understand the need for navigable waterways and the importance of a fully operational harbor for Lexington. The low lake levels, and build-up of silt, impacted the harbor which in turn created a negative economic impact on the village. I am pleased the project is completed."

Dredging crews removed about 14,000 cubic yards of sand from the harbor and placed it on the beach to prevent erosion, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials. The dredging project removed shoals in the harbor and will allow for additional draft for boating in the harbor.

Previously Rep. Miller secured $205,000 in 2003 for Lexington, and $100,000 in 2005 for dredging in Lexington. She has secured a total of $467,360 for dredging for the state-owned Lexington Harbor over the past six years.

With the completion of Lexington Harbor, dredging crews will now move on to Port Sanilac for another federally funded project. Rep. Miller also obtained $138,744 this year for the Corps of Engineers for dredging of Port Sanilac Harbor.

Over the past six years Rep. Miller has been in Congress she has secured $368,744 for dredging in Port Sanilac.
