Congressman Cazayoux Statement on 100% Federal Cost Share for LA Parishes Affected by Hurricane Ike
"I am extremely disappointed that the President left out parishes affected by Hurricane Gustav in his 100% federal cost share declaration. While Hurricane Ike caused tremendous damage to the southern part of Louisiana and those affected by the storm deserve all available assistance from the federal government, Hurricane Gustav was equally devastating- if not more so- to the 6th District. Additionally, Livingston Parish, which received significant damage from Hurricane Ike and was included in the federal disaster declaration, was not made eligible for 100% cost share.
"Full federal cost share is essential for a speedy recovery process for our communities and I urge the President to grant full cost share for Louisiana parishes affected by Gustav. I cannot understand the Administration's faulty logic for including Ike but not Gustav for full federal cost share.
"I will continue working with the Governor and the Louisiana Congressional delegation to make sure that Congress and the President do not forget about the victims of Hurricane Gustav."
Previously, Congressman Cazayoux joined with the Governor and the Louisiana delegation in asking for the President to grant 100% cost share for parishes affected by Hurricane Gustav.
