Kurt Schrader, candidate for U.S. Congress in Oregon's 5th Congressional District today announced his support for "Use It or Lose It" legislation to increase domestic energy production.
"I strongly support efforts to increase domestic energy production," said Schrader. "We are all concerned about rising energy prices. This legislation would spur companies to take advantage of the leases they already have."
"Use It or Lose It" legislation would bar companies from obtaining any more federal leases for drilling unless they can demonstrate that they are producing or developing oil and gas from the leases they already hold.
There are currently 68 million acres of leased but inactive public land. Oil and natural gas from this land could significantly increase U.S. production and decrease our dependence on foreign oil.
"We can't drill our way out the energy problems we are facing," said Schrader. "However, companies should take advantage of the leases they have while we work on long term solutions to our energy needs."
