Grassley: Nearly $77 Million in Energy Assistance to Iowa
Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has released $76,929,443 to Iowa through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in the fiscal 2009 Continuing Resolution. These funds are part of $5.1 billion released nationally that will help provide winter heating assistance for low-income households.
"This is important and welcome news for Iowans trying to stay warm as the price of heating oil and natural gas go up and the temperature goes down," Grassley said. "These funds will provide vital assistance to many low-income and elderly Iowans as they ride out the usually long and cold winter."
Grassley has been a long-time supporter of the LIHEAP Program. Grassley recently sent a letter along with 47 of his colleagues to the chairman and ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Committee asking for additional funding for LIHEAP to make sure the low-income and elderly residents have the necessary resources available this winter.
