Congressman Chip Pickering announces a Delta Regional Authority grant of $161,822 to Magee General Hospital. The funding will enable the hospital to provide equipment for a new Emergency Room at MGH. Magee General will provide a 30% match for a total of $231,175 in funds.
The MGH Emergency Room serves more than 11,000 persons annually. Due to rural hospitals closing their emergency rooms, people within a 40 mile radius have to use MGH. These improved and expanded healthcare services will increase productivity for MGH maximizing time allowance for intakes, screening and better treatment of patients. The purchase of new equipment and expanded services will also create 4 new jobs.
"Magee General's partnership in public-private funding over the past three years shows their sincere commitment to better meet the healthcare needs of Simpson County. I commend them for their continued strive for excellence. This expansion and purchase of new equipment will provide quality care to the surrounding community and better serve their patients," said Congressman Pickering.
In 2006, Magee General Hospital was awarded DRA funding for Radiology and Labor and Delivery upgrades and in 2007 received funding to purchase equipment for a new Surgical Suite and Laboratory.
Congressman Chip Pickering represents Mississippi's Third Congressional District and serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. This is his sixth term.
