Shulman Supports Illegal Immigration; Ignores National Security Threat

The Garrett for Congress campaign today issued the following statement regarding Dennis Shulman's support for illegal immigration:

Dennis Shulman's opposition to securing our borders poses a massive security risk to Americans, including families in the 5th District. Border security is an issue on which we cannot be ambiguous. The federal government's failure to address illegal immigration has negatively impacted our communities, and Dennis Shulman has no plan to provide solutions. In fact, as an amnesty advocate, Shulman's policies would give shelter to potential terrorists that enter the country illegally.

The pro-illegal immigration agenda is perilously dangerous. In a single day, over 4,000 illegal aliens cross into the U.S. along the 375-mile border between Arizona and Mexico. In a single year, around 200,000 of the illegals that cross this border are from countries other than Mexico. Many of these countries, such as Afghanistan, Iran and Russia, have large populations hostile to the U.S.

In the 9/11 commission's final report, the security weakness posed by lax border security were detailed; the commission explained, "two systemic weaknesses came together in our border system's inability to contribute to an effective defense against the 9/11 attacks: a lack of well-developed counterterrorism measures as a part of border security and an immigration system not able to deliver on its basic commitments, much less support counterterrorism. These weaknesses have been reduced but are far from being overcome."

Shulman's support for these policies is clear in that he leans on Jeff Hauser, an illegal immigration activist, to run his campaign. Even as he started work for Shulman's campaign, Hauser was still registered as a lobbyist for a pro-illegal immigration organization, Coalition for "Comprehensive" Immigration Reform, and has personally lobbied the offices of Members of Congress. In a single year alone, this group spent $840,000 on lobbying activities, funds specifically directed to further an agenda that poses significant risk to American national security.

Who will stand up for the people who do all the work, pay all the taxes, and obey all the laws? Scott Garrett will continue to do everything he can to protect our national security, the rule of law, and the American taxpayer.
