Congresswoman Johnson Statement On the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008

Press Release

Date: Sept. 30, 2008
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson today released the following statement on her vote in favor of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008:

"I voted for the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act because it would give a loan to Wall Street—one that Wall Street needs right now, so that Main Street can survive. My vote was about helping North Texans get through what looks to be a major credit crisis. Credit keeps our economy moving—it enables small businesses to survive and people to go to college and buy homes. My worry is that our independent, community-based banks and small businesses will go under if we don't act soon.

"Members of the House and the Senate worked with the administration to craft an economic rescue package that reinvests in the troubled financial markets and ensures that every penny of taxpayer money is repaid. The package limits excessive compensation for the CEOs and executives that got the banks in trouble.

"I will continue to work hard to represent the interests of my constituents and safeguard their economic stability."
