HOLT STATEMENT ON YELLOWSTONE SNOWMOBILE FEDERAL COURT DECISION
(Washington, D.C.) - Rep. Rush Holt (NJ-12) today issued the following statement in response to a federal court decision that struck down the Bush Administration's plan to increase snowmobile use in Yellowstone National Park. Last year, Holt, a member of the House Committee on Natural Resources, wrote National Park Service Director Mary Bomar to voice his opposition to the NPS proposal, arguing that it would allow increased air and noise pollution from snowmobiles and ignore recommendations to managers by the agency's wildlife scientists to limit use. The full congressional letter is available at http://holt.house.gov/pdf/Yellowstone_letter.pdf
"For years, National Park Service officials have pretended that science didn't exist, saying that the snowmobile plan is consistent with the mission of Yellowstone Park, of which the highest element is preservation."
