While many challenges still remain in Iraq, over the past several months, progress has been made in Iraq that will hopefully allow us to begin drawing down force levels. The Iraqi government is finally training its own forces at a quickened pace and there has been progress on the political front as well.
In Afghanistan, recent events have not been so promising. The Taliban seems to be resurgent, financed by a drug trade that has not been diminished. We must step up efforts, along with our NATO allies, to ensure that Afghanistan doesn't again become a country from which terrorist attacks against the United States and its allies can be directed.
