Education is the key not only to individual opportunity, but also to our Nation's competitiveness in the global market place. Providing high quality education for West Virginia's youth is one of Congressman Rahall's top priorities. He is a staunch supporter and advocate for West Virginia's teachers, who have the important job of nurturing the young minds of West Virginia and the ability to shape not only our children's future, but also the future of our state.
Additionally, Congressman Rahall believes that there is no greater investment one can make than a college education. It is an investment that students can make to better themselves, that parents can make to advance their children, and communities can make to support their economies. If we want to continue to produce a highly competitive American workforce, we must do more to ensure that tomorrow's leaders are prepared with the knowledge they need to guide America wisely.
To this end, Congressman Rahall has supported legislation to fully fund the No Child Left Behind Act and the Individuals with Disabilities Act, so that local school districts have the resources they need to provide West Virginia's students with a top-notch education. He has also pushed to increase funding for Head Start as well as Pell grants, college work-study and federally insured student loans, so that our children can begin their education with the skills they need to eventually attend college and pursue an advanced education making college affordable for every student in West Virginia and this Nation, enough that American continues to have the brightest and most innovative work force in the world. He is also an avid supporter of university research projects at West Virginia's colleges and universities that develop advances in academic fields that lead to new technologies and medical knowledge.
