Investment in public infrastructure is the key to our economic prosperity and our competitiveness in a global marketplace. Commerce relies on our ability to safely and efficiently move goods and services by air, rail, road and pipeline. The transportation sector is also an important provider of good paying jobs and benefits. In 2005, Matheson secured $1.8 billion in the five-year reauthorization of the major federal highway bill to fund multi-year highway and transit projects in Utah, including new and expanded highway construction and regional commuter rail. He has also secured more than $90 million for construction of the new St. George Airport, scheduled to open in 2011.
