Our extraordinary men and women in uniform are the core of our national defense. I support whatever it takes to make sure they have the resources to perform their mission and to return home safely. That is why I support funding our troops, providing the equipment and supplies they need, and raising their pay and keeping their health care costs affordable.
I have supported the Wounded Warrior Act to improve the care of returning troops and address the scandal involving conditions at Water Reed Army Hospital. I want to strengthen Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury care at military facilities. I support providing Family Medical Leave for families of soldiers wounded in combat.
We can never say thank you enough to our veterans. That's why I supported successful passage of a veteran's proposal that provided the largest increase in veterans' funding in the 77-year history of the VA. That has helped reduce the backlog in processing claims and shortened the wait for veterans to access their benefits. Finally, I supported a new GI Bill that fulfills the promise we made to veterans with respect to helping them pay for college. It keeps my promise to the members of Fox Company - a Marine Reserve unit deployed to Iraq that--because of a technical loophole--couldn't access the education benefits they had rightfully earned after completing two deployments. After five years of effort, my proposal to fix that loophole was included in the new GI Bill that recently passed Congress and was signed into law.
