Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a grant in the amount of $481,331 to Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center for their community outreach efforts. The funds will be used to support a home visitation program to prevent child maltreatment.

The Administration on Children, Youth and Families (ACYF), a division of HHS, awarded the new grant as part of the Child Abuse and Neglect Projects funding program. The ACYF develops and implements research, demonstration and evaluation strategies for the discretionary funding of activities designed to improve and enrich the lives of children and youth and to strengthen families.

"I am very pleased to announce this nearly half a million dollar award for Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center," said Congressman Cohen. "Le Bonheur is a leader in the 9th District in delivering high-quality patient care, research and education, and I believe that this funding will assist them well in their mission to serve the people of the Mid-South. This program is especially important because it brings health care out of the hospital and into the community, proactively trying to prevent child abuse and neglect."
