Issue Position: Energy Independence

We should have crafted an energy policy 20 to 30 years ago. We need to develop the tremendous resources that we have in the US from oil to coal to natural gas. We must encourage drilling and exploration for new resources.

We know where many reserves are, and we need to develop them. We need to also use wind, solar, geothermal, biofuels, hydroelectric, wave motion, hydrogen, etc. We have more oil in shale formations in the far west than they have in the Middle East.

We need to build more Nuclear Power Plants. We need to develop better batteries, and more fuel efficient vehicles. We must build new and more efficient refineries. We need to encourage the use of more efficient and cleaner burning diesel engines. We need to lower diesel fuel prices to help the transportation industry and others. Using corn in ethanol production is inefficient, costly, and raises food prices.
