Issue Position: Affordable Healthcare
There is no question that the nation's current health care system is flawed and needs to be reformed. For some Americans, the issue is a matter of life and deaththe Institute of Medicine has found that 18,000 Americans die every year because of lack of health insurance. Countless others forgo necessary medical care because of high cost and lack of coverage. The United States is behind other industrialized nations in failing to guarantee access to health care to its citizens. We need publicly funded, quality universal coverage for all Americans.
That's why I support H.R. 676, which takes the insurance companies out of the healthcare equation and creates a universal, single-payer healthcare system. Under this program, every American would have access to medical care from birth to death. That's truly revolutionary. Moreover, this new system will be less costly and will offer more quality services than we currently receive.
