Chaffetz Signs Picken's Energy Pledge...

Chaffetz Signs T. Boone Pickens' Energy Independence Pledge
& American Conservative Union's Energy Freedom Pledge

Today Jason Chaffetz, the Republican candidate for Congress
in Utah's Third District, signed two commitments to fight
for energy independence. Chaffetz signed the T. Boone
Pickens' Energy Independence Pledge and the American
Conservative Union Energy Freedom Pledge.
Chaffetz commented, "It's time to unleash innovation,
inspire entrepreneurship, and get government out of the way
so our best minds can solve our nation's energy crisis.
The United States must adopt a comprehensive energy plan
that allows us to develop our own resources in a timely and
responsible manner without the expensive and restrictive
lawsuits. Energy independence is a national security issue
and vital to our economic future. Energy policy has been
ignored by our nation's leaders for far too long. This is
an issue on which I intend to spend my political capital in
Congress."

T. Boone Pickens' Energy Independence Pledge, signed by
Jason Chaffetz:

"We will no longer stand by and watch as America's national
security and economy become more dependent on the unstable
foreign nations that we rely on for nearly 70% of the oil
we use each day.

We spend nearly $700 billion every year buying foreign oil,
which represents the greatest transfer of wealth in the
history of mankind.

The new President and the 111th Congress need to enact an
energy plan that reduces our foreign oil dependence by at
least 30% within ten years.

This plan must include proven American technology and
resources; the development of new energy sources; and the
expansion and modernization of the national electrical grid
to transport renewable energy to homes and businesses.

Delaying any further means tacit support for continuing
America's addiction to foreign oil.

I join with T. Boone Pickens and his army of supporters in
calling for an Energy
Independence Plan to be enacted within the first 100 days
of the new administration."

American Conservative Union Energy Freedom Pledge, signed
by Jason Chaffetz:

"I, Jason Chaffetz, pledge to the citizens of Utah and to
the American People that I will: Oppose any and all
attempts to impose another national ban on the drilling for
oil and natural gas energy resources off our nation's
shores or oil shale extraction in the continental United
States; and I will, support efforts to increase domestic
energy production which will provide for America's future
energy needs and make the United States less dependent on
foreign sources of energy."

Chaffetz further commented, " We should be drilling in
ANWR, off-shore, and extracting the resources right here in
Utah. Utah has tremendous reserves of oil shale, coal,
natural gas, and un-tapped wind, geothermal, and other
renewable resources. Unlike the Democrats, I want to
pursue all possibilities and achieve energy independence."
