Congressman Travis Childers Discusses Financial Crisis with Constituents, Returns to Washington to Work on Solution

Press Release

Date: Oct. 1, 2008
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Travis Childers (D-MS) traveled to the First District on Tuesday to talk with constituents about the current financial crisis and their concerns about a plan that would cost Americans $700 billion dollars. The Congressman will return to Washington, D.C. tonight to work with his colleagues towards finding a more fiscally responsible solution that respects taxpayer dollars.

"I've been speaking with the hard-working people of North Mississippi, and they're already spread thin trying to make ends meet," said Congressman Childers. "My friends' and family's pocketbooks are getting hit hard in the face of home foreclosures and outrageous gas and grocery prices. We're all feeling the pinch.

"This is a situation where we need to get it right, not get it fast. Whatever plan is ultimately implemented should be fiscally responsible and fundamentally fair to the American taxpayer. It needs to include more thorough provisions for increased oversight and accountability to hard-working families. I have kept an open-mind during negotiations, and will continue to base my decision on what's best for North Mississippi."
