Congress must pass legislation that puts our country on a permanent path toward energy independence and reduces our reliance on oil.

I support domestic drilling as part of our energy solution, but we've got to be smart about it. The best place to start is the millions of acres that are already available or leased for oil and natural gas production.

I support common sense increases in the Corporate Automobile Fuel Efficiency Standard, as long as those standards provide flexibility to automakers to ensure they will be reached without jeopardizing American manufacturing jobs.

I support increased federal investment in the research and development of alternative energy sources, as well as production tax incentives to spur new renewable energy innovation in the electricity industry and efficiency standards to ensure that the products Americans use consume less electricity.
