We face threats everyday from our enemies who are committed to causing harm to Americans both at home and to our allies and interests overseas. As your congressman, I am determined to make sure that our men and women serving both here and abroad have the tools, training, and leadership they need to protect us here at home and to pursue and defeat our adversaries abroad.
As a country we must be prepared to deal decisively with any threat that may arise. An important part of that readiness is that we maintain a strong and well-equipped military. Further we must also work with our allies and like-minded democracies to share intelligence and cooperate militarily whenever possible.
I am a strong supporter of strengthening, removing inefficiency, and improving performance at the Department of Homeland Security. We need to do more to protect and defend our borders from intruders, provide for improved critical infrastructure protections, strengthen transportation security, and provide better resources for our first responders, local law enforcement agencies, and other government agencies. In fact, I was proud that the first bill passed by the House of Representatives in the 110th Congress was bipartisan legislation implementing key 9/11 Commission recommendations that had not been acted upon. Together we can continue to protect our nation's security and freedom.
