What a day...
Friends and supporters, this is a great day.
When I walked in our headquarters this morning, I was greeted by thirty smiling faces of volunteers, hard at work. I felt my heart swell with gratitude and humility. These people share my vision, and they get it. This is not about me; it's about them.
The Dayton, Ohio energy was contagious as these volunteers crowded around the headquarters television to listen to McCain announce his running mate. As excited as I already was about the November elections, I felt re-energized as I listened to John McCain and Sarah Palin speak.
McCain could not have made a better choice to complement his portfolio of experience. This energetic and spirited mother of five is a pro-life, pro-gun, and pro-drilling advocate who is not afraid to defy conventional practices. Her accomplishments as governor in the last two years include passing an ethics bill, selling Alaska's unnecessary state jet, passing on the expensive "Bridge to Nowhere," and cutting wasteful pork-barrel and earmark spending.
I find it especially appropriate that McCain announced his running mate this week, the 88th anniversary of women's suffrage. Sarah Palin is the second woman, and the first Republican woman, to run on the presidential ticket.
The McCain-Palin team is exactly what Americans need, and it's one we can get behind. This dynamic duo is ready to take on Washington. So am I.
