Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a Senior Member of the Florida delegation, voted for a second economic stimulus package which provides an additional 7 weeks of unemployment benefits for job seekers, emergency funding for school construction, public housing, Medicaid Federal Medical Assistance, highway improvements, as well as an increase in food stamps for seniors, the disabled, and the poor. This bill passed the House of Representatives by a bi-partisan vote of 264 to 158. A similar measure failed to pass in the Senate earlier today.
Said Ros-Lehtinen: "At a time when Florida's unemployment rate is at a 13-year high, it is vital that we provide financial assistance to those individuals who are actively seeking employment but unable to secure a steady job because of the current economic uncertainty.
I urge my colleagues in the Senate to put partisan bickering aside and pass a bill to provide economic relief for our struggling families."
