Statement on House Passage of Financial Sector Bailout Legislation

Press Release

Date: Oct. 3, 2008
Location: Washington D.C.

Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14) issued the following statement today after the House of Representatives passed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act. Mack voted against this ill-conceived legislation that provides a $700 billion bailout of the nation's financial sector.

Mack said:

"The $700 billion bailout of the financial sector remains an affront to every ideal that has made our nation great and strong. Like tens of millions of Americans, I'm angry that the Administration and Congress rushed to adopt this massive, socialist-style economic program while refusing to consider free-market alternatives that would have strengthened our economy while preserving capitalism.

"This day will sadly go down as one of the most significant in American history. Our children and grandchildren will come to know it as the day Congress killed the free market."
