Did you know 797,500 kids are reported missing every year? I have fought everyday in Congress to put child predators in the crosshairs and make sure our communities are safe for our children and grandchildren.
Tonight, National Night Out will provide an opportunity to teach children about the dangers that exist on the internet and in our neighborhoods. This evening I will be joining forces with local police and Crime Dog McGruff to talk to parents and kids about ways to stay safe, secure, and away from trouble.
The topic of missing and exploited children is never a pleasant thing to discuss. Nor is the topic of violence against innocent girls and young boys but it is a reality we must face and attack if we hope to protect our most precious resource - our children.
Parents form the front line when it comes to keeping children safe but this is a shared responsibility. Just a few weeks ago I passed legislation that takes our fight to predators in cyberspace by holding websites accountable for illegal material.
The playgrounds of yesterday are the chat rooms and websites of today. Reports of children and teens being abducted from their bedrooms via the internet increase annually. This has to stop! Leading the Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus to make the internet safe and secure for children is more important than any legislation I have ever worked on.
We've taken a big step toward supporting parents in their efforts to protect their children. Our combined efforts will help make the Internet and our neighbors safer.
Please contact my campaign office to find out how you can help us in our fight to catch, prosecute and jail child predators by calling (281) 208-1990.
