Kennedy Statement on President Bush's Decision to Extend Louisiana's Levee Repayment Plan

U.S. Senate candidate John Kennedy today released the following statement praising President Bush's announcement giving Louisiana up to 30 years to pay its $1.8 billion share of levee repair costs:

"I want to thank President Bush for extending Louisiana's levee repayment plan. The President's decision shows his commitment to helping Louisiana rebuild since the devastating storms. I also want to thank Governor Bobby Jindal for his dedicated commitment to working with Major General Douglas O'Dell and President Bush to deliver for the people of Louisiana."

"The American people have been very generous to Louisiana since the storms, but we must also hold up our end of the bargain and spend these scarce recovery dollars wisely. As Senator I will always stand strong for our fair share of hurricane recovery resources."
