Issue Position: Protecting Human Dignity

The vast majority of Coloradans agree it is a self-evident truth that all human beings are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with unalienable rights including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Bob believes it is the primary function of government to protect these rights.

Bob Schaffer's Vision for Protecting Human Dignity:

Bob has made policy presentations to citizen groups and civic organizations throughout Colorado over the past year. The topic of protecting the sanctity of human life is a frequent theme. Following are some of the ideas Bob has proposed on the campaign trail:

* Defend the unalienable rights of all living human beings. Bob supports the unalienable rights acknowledged in the U.S. Declaration of Independence for all living human beings regardless of age or residence.

* Promote adoption. Bob believes we should be doing more to promote adoption, as well as giving parents the tools to provide children with adequate health care and a quality education.

* Promote life-affirming stem-cell research. Stem-cell research offers great promise to finding cures and life-extending treatments for a number of diseases. Bob firmly supports non-embryonic research including public investment. Bob opposes spending federal tax dollars on research that involves the deliberate destruction of live human embryos. Recent advancements in medical science and technology are moving us beyond this debate and providing researchers with superior prospects for cures without the ethical and moral concerns surrounding the destruction of human life.

* Support overseas health missions that respect human life. Bob supports the Mexico City Policy which prohibits private organizations that perform and promote elective abortions from receiving federal tax subsidies for overseas family planning programs

* Pursue other strategies to honor the sanctity of human life. Bob supports more strategies to honor the sanctity of human life - some may be added to this list at a later date. If you have further ideas on how to promote the sanctity of human life in the U.S. Senate, please share them with Bob's campaign.
