State Senator Vivian Davis Figures (D) has clinched the Democratic nomination and will be on the ballot for this year's United States Senate election. Alabama citizens voted for Senator Figures and made her the clear-cut winner over her opposition with 64% of the votes casted in Tuesday's election.
"Alabama is tired of politics as usual," said Sen. Figures. "The United States Senate seat belongs to the people of Alabama and they know that I intend to be the transparent vessel they need and deserve."
Figures, who currently is an Alabama State Senator, will face incumbent Senator Jeff Sessions in the general election, held in November. "I decided to run as a candidate for the United States Senate because I believe all of our voices should be heard, not just Republicans or just Democrats. The issues of Alabama should matter to those in Washington D.C. Together we can be the difference to make Alabama better."
Senator Figures has served as an Alabama State Senator since 1996 when her husband, the late Senator Michael Figures suffered a massive stroke.
