WHIO - Local Congressional Leaders Displeased With Rescue Plan
As congressional leaders and the White House rally support for a $700 billion financial bailout plan, Dayton-area members of Congress said they are displeased with the details of the bill. At least one is likely to vote "no."
A vote in the U.S. House is expected early Friday.
Rep. Michael Turner, the former Mayor of Dayton, said he does not favor the rescue bill passed Wednesday by the U.S. Senate. Turner said, "I'm very concerned that the people responsible for this are not being held accountable. The practices that ought to be prohibited aren't being prohibited. On day one, after this passes, the types of mortgage lending we've seen could continue. We don't have protections in place for the taxpayer."
