U.S. Representative Tom Allen issued the following statement below today on the announcement by GE Healthcare that it will close its Sanford facility in 2009 and lay off an estimated 225 workers.
"This is terrible news for the GE Healthcare workers and their families. It is also an economic setback for Sanford and western York County. My office has contacted the Town of Sanford and the Maine Department of Labor to assure them that we stand ready to work with them and the other members of Maine's congressional delegation to do everything possible to secure federal assistance for those who will lose their jobs."
