Washington, D.C. (Thursday, September 25, 2008) U.S. Representative Tom Allen, a senior member of the House Budget Committee, today announced that the U.S. Army has executed a modification to an existing contract with General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products, Inc. to procure an additional 829 M2 Machine Guns at a cost of $9,952,145. The work will be performed in Saco, Maine.

"The Army's decision recognizes the high quality, reliable work done at General Dynamics in Saco," said Rep. Allen, "It is a testament to the vital role Maine workers play in our national defense."
The production of the additional M2 machine guns, which will be used on military ground vehicles, is estimated to be completed by December 31, 2009. The estimated cumulative total of the contract is over $75 million. Last March, in anticipation of the needs of the Defense Department customers, the company invested over $5 million in equipment at the Saco site, and hired 60 additional production workers and announced plans to hire 30 more. The total workforce at the Saco facility now numbers 398.
