Sen. Salazar Lauds Senate Passage of Defense Bill

Today, United States Senator Ken Salazar released the following statement regarding Senate passage of S.3001, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2009. Senator Salazar voted in support of the measure, which passed the full Senate by a vote of 88 to 8.

"I am pleased Republicans and Democrats came together today to pass a bill that takes meaningful steps to strengthen America's Armed Forces, improve our military readiness, and properly honor the sacrifice of our veterans and military families.

"Colorado will directly benefit from many provisions in this bill. It provides our military installations with the resources they need to carry out their missions and enhances the quality of life for our men and women in uniform, our veterans, and their families through increased salaries and improved access to quality, affordable health care.

"I am also pleased this bill authorizes a significant increase in funding for chemical demilitarization at the Pueblo Chemical Depot, which will ensure the Army has the resources it needs to meet its 2017 deadline for weapons destruction and will prevent any delays in military construction progress at the Depot in the coming months.
