Issue Position: Working for Families

Issue Position

Tim has devoted his entire career to making a difference in the lives of families and children.

He understands that everything he does is for you and your families. He also understands that all-too-often, politicians forget that the real lives of real people are affected by every single decision their government makes. Higher taxes mean parents have to work longer hours and not spend as much time at home with their children. A failing education system leads to cycles of dependence on social services, lost opportunities, and diminished productivity for generations of young Americans. Rising oil and gas prices produce not just rising utility bills but also rising bills for food and clothing and other necessities.

Tim knows that you want -- and need -- someone you can trust working for you. And that's why, for the last eleven years, through his time in the Pennsylvania State Senate to his current work as your Congressman in Washington, and even long before that as a practicing child psychologist, Tim has always put families and children first. He's worked tirelessly for health care reform and increased funding for medical research. He's pushed for stringent safety measures, electronic records, and right-to-know laws for medical patients and their families. He fought for improvements to standardized testing and student assessments, and he introduced the Mental Health Security for American Families in Education Act, so that parents have easier access to information about depressed or trouble college students.

After hearing about two local children who were injured when their house was destroyed by an explosion caused by a ruptured gas line, Tim wrote Marc and Chelsea's Law, which replaced a dangerous and ineffective patchwork of laws all across the nation with a single, responsible standard to follow for any utility accident or pipeline damage. This law, like many of the other laws and initiatives for which Tim has so tirelessly worked, quite literally saves lives.
