Statement of Senator Barack Obama on the Change of Command for General Odierno and General Petraeus

U.S. Senator Barack Obama today released the following statement on the change of command for General Raymond Odierno and General David Petraeus:

"I congratulate General Raymond Odierno for assuming command of Multi-National Force - Iraq. With his extensive knowledge of Iraq and the respect of Americans and Iraqis alike, General Odierno will bring important experience and proven leadership to this position.

"I also commend General David Petraeus for his outstanding work in Iraq, and am pleased that he is bringing his talents and insights to Central Command. He will now oversee a range of critical priorities including a resurgent Taliban and al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Iraq, and other key areas of instability such as the Horn of Africa.

"These men have made many sacrifices and worked tirelessly on behalf of our great nation. Like all Americans, I wish them the very best in their new tours, and I look forward to working with them going forward."
