Issue Position: Healthcare

Issue Position

By any measure, healthcare access is a crisis in America, today. Although we lead the world in medical innovation, 47 million Americans, or 16 percent of the population, live without health insurance. Millions of hard working Americans face the escalating cost of coverage while their benefits are being reduced. That is why I have cosponsored legislation to guarantee every American access to quality, affordable health insurance.

In the meantime, we as a nation must ensure our seniors have access to the medications their doctors prescribe. No American should have to choose between paying for a meal and taking his or her prescription medicine. Too many seniors, however, have to make this choice on a daily basis. I cosponsored and voted in favor of the Medicare Prescription Drug Price Negotiation Act, which will compel the Secretary of Health and Human Services to negotiate for lower prescription drug prices on behalf of our seniors, saving both them and taxpayers money.

The healthcare crisis that plagues our nation has no easy answer, but by committing our resources to fixing our broken system, we can ensure that no American is denied the right to adequate healthcare.
