Issue Position: Immigration

Today America is facing unprecedented levels of illegal immigration. This trend shows serious flaws in our current system. Immigration reform is a top priority of mine, and should be for the majority of my colleagues.

One of the things that make our country great is our tradition of welcoming immigrants from around the world. At the same time, we must insist that our laws are obeyed and respected by those who wish to live here. Republicans and Democrats alike agree that many of today's illegal immigration problems are a direct result of a broken legal immigration system. For example, almost half of all illegal immigrants enter the United States on tourist visas and never leave.

While I welcome the discussion and debate on this issue, I will not support any reform plan that would reward individuals who have entered this country illegally.

Recent Developments

As a member of the House Immigration Caucus, I will support efforts to achieve immigration reform without granting amnesty to those who are here illegally.

We must continue to seek long-term, effective solutions in immigration reform, without compromising our nation's integrity in the process.
