Blackburn Statement on TVA Rate Hike
High Cost of Energy Affecting All Americans While Democrat Recess Continues
Rep. Marsha Blackburn (TN-7) again urged Speaker Pelosi to call the House into session immediately to address the nation's energy crisis. Blackburn was spurred by the latest announcement from the Tennessee Valley Authority that they will increase their rates by 20% effective October 1. The TVA cites the rising cost of fuel, especially coal and natural gas, as the source of the increase.

Traveling in the Arctic Circle as she reviews options for drilling for American oil on American soil, Blackburn made the following statement:
"Today's TVA announcement will be difficult for the consumer to bear. The Democrat no-energy policy is hurting Tennesseans at the gas pump, and now it will hurt them every time they turn on the light switch. It is time for Congress to adopt an all of the above' energy strategy for American energy independence. Republicans have been working on the House floor for the last fourteen days with no sign of our Democrat colleagues. We, and our constituents, are still waiting on them to come back to work."
"Democrat inaction has spread from the gas pump to coal and natural gas. This country is rich in both resources, but Democrats are blocking their exploitation. Today, Democrat road blocks turned into higher prices for Tennesseans."
