Congressman Barrow knows that working families already pay too much in taxes. That's why lowering taxes has been a top priority for Congressman Barrow. As a County Commissioner, John Barrow voted against every tax increase he could and supported tax cuts that significantly reduced the tax burden on his constituents. In Congress, he's done the same:
* Supporting the extension of the 2001 tax cuts, and providing about $56 billion in tax relief.
* Extending and increasing the exemption for the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT).
* Voting to extend the current child tax credit of $1,000 through 2010 and extend a deduction for up to $250 of expenses for school supplies purchased by elementary or secondary teachers for their classes.
* Consistently voting against tax increases.
* Voting to permanently repeal the Death Tax.
* Opposing the National Sales Tax, which would increase taxes on 80% of all Americans.
Since taking office in 2005, John Barrow has supported a total of $ 438,753,000,000 in tax cuts:
* The Tax Increase Prevention and Reconciliation Act (HR 4297), which cut taxes by $90.9 billion.
* The Death Tax Repeal Permanency Act of 2005 (HR 8), which cut taxes by $289.9 billion.
* The Energy Policy Act (HR 6), which cut taxes by $11.6 billion.
* The Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act (HR 3768), which cut taxes by $6.1 billion.
* The Gulf Opportunity Zone Act (HR 4440), which cut taxes by $8 billion.
* The Tax Revision Act of 2005 (HR 4388), which cut taxes by $153 million.
* The Stealth Tax Relief Act (HR 4096), which cut the Alternative Minimum Tax by over $31 billion.
* The Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act (HR 3), which cut taxes by $1.1 billion.
