REP. STEVE ISRAEL IS WORKING IN CONGRESS TO PUT YOUR PRIORITIES AHEAD OF THE SPECIAL INTERESTS.

Fighting for the Importation of Safe, Affordable Medicines

Too many seniors are forced into Canada to purchase affordable brand name drugs. Canada and other foreign governments protect their seniors from price gouging. America has been protecting drug company profits ahead of our seniors. These are the wrong priorities. Rep. Steve Israel is fighting to make it a top priority to protect seniors from price gouging. Rep. Israel is fighting stiff opposition from the pharmaceutical industry to pass the Pharmaceutical Market Access and Drug Safety Act, to provide for safe importation of prescription drugs at affordable price.

Working to Correct a Flawed Prescription Drug Plan

Congressman Israel knows drug prices are hard on seniors. That's why he voted against legislation that would potentially push seniors into private plans and strip away cost savings and protections for the elderly. Israel also cosponsored the Medicare Prescription Drug Price Negotiation Act of 2007. This legislation, which passed the House of Representatives on January 12, 2007, requires the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services to negotiate with drug companies for lower prices for Medicare recipients.
