Issue Position: Government Reform and Transparency
Congresswoman Gillibrand has been a trailblazer in Congress on creating reform and providing transparency. She was the first Member of Congress to post her daily schedule online and among the first to publicly release and post online all earmark requests that she made on behalf of her district. In addition, Kirsten is one of a handful of members to voluntarily post her financial disclosure forms online. Congresswoman Gillibrand has also been a vocal advocate in Congress for establishing an independent ethics commission.
One of the first votes Congresswoman Gillibrand made was to implement strict ethics reform rules in Congress, which will prevent Members of Congress from receiving gifts, meals and travel junkets from lobbyists and special interests. Additionally, she voted to make the earmark process more transparent and accountable by attaching the sponsor's name to the requested earmark.
Congresswoman Gillibrand has voted twice to reject a pay raise for Members of Congress and donated last year's increase to charity.
